It is quite ironic how a simple notion can become such a hassle. When we decided to compile a list of useful search engines and directories on the Internet our initial thoughts were we would be so overwhelmed with choices it would be necessary to devise a selection criteria. This undertaking proved there are certain situations where it is not prudent to be overly prepaired.

The term Web 2.0 has come to dramatically increased usage over the past few years. Many people have since begun to appropriate this hot new buzzword for their own websites while others are not quite so eager to embrace this new concept, considering it little more than an inappropriately named web-marketing gimmick.

The Open Directory Project(ODP) has been in disarray for a number of years. In spite of this fact Google and other search engines place a significant value in whether a website is listed in the ODP's directory.
