The name Octopius is derived, in part, from the calender month October in conjunction with the less known figurative meaning associated with the word octopus, which is more commonly known as an ocean dwelling animal with tenacles.
The month of October is personally significant to the founder of the company. Consequently, October, being the 10th month of the calendar year was perceived symbolically appropriate in a computer programming context which was founded on utilising decimal binary code. The programming of computers is achieved by a system of decimal numbers coded in binary units of four digits represented by the numbers 1 and 0.
These reasons combined with the figurative meaning of octopus which is a powerful, grasping organisation with far-reaching influence is how the name Octopius was chosen for our company.
